People are talking about “the kiss” in the new gameplay trailer for The Last of Us Part 2, but is that really a big thing these days? Sony edited it in for a reason — yep, people are talking about it — but what’s really worth talking about in this game? Why should I watch twelve minutes of this trailer?
Well, there’s a reason for the twelve minutes.
First of all, it’s beautiful. But what big budget game isn’t these days?
Secondly, it’s not repetitive. Too often, stealth games fall into that world of sneak and sneak and sneak some more. But we have a fair amount of different actions that are used at different parts of a level.
Moving under cover, shoot, melee and also using the environment are some of the key skills to learn. Knowing when to use which is the difference between life and death.
For example, at 8:50 our heroine has unfortunately run out of bullets, which I feel will happen quite often in this game. And rightly so — ammunition don’t grow on trees, especially in a apocalyptic universe.
So what does she do? Run to the nearest store. Take cover. Keep an eye on the bad guys as they enter. Three of them? Okay, don’t engage. Move here, move there. Survive. Beautiful gameplay.
Yep, kiss is good click bait, but the gameplay here is worth sticking and doing the twelve minutes.
