Emagon Trailer — No Game? Game On? This is what Emagon is….

By | December 2, 2014

Emagon is a marketing gimmick. That’s all it’s right now until Friday when we know what it is, if it is anything. There’s speculation and all the anagrams (Game On, No Game, etc) and a trailer but nothing more. The trailer is via Spanish Playstation and so it’s in Spanish (see translation below with my commentary in parenthesis). The narration is more vague gimmicky markety and possibly metaphorical stuff about 20 years and things being built and power and control. Playstation One came out in Japan 20 years ago and they’ve built and had power and control.

The cinematic trailer is in first-person perspective, but probably not actual gameplay view although there is an interface including a plant and a compass. S/he navigates through a jungle, emerges into a desert where a plant sprouts up from a crack in the ground. Yeah, more metaphor.

This has to be a game at this point. If it’s not, and it is nothing more than a marketing gimmick, it’ll back-fire, the mob will stir and wreak havoc on social media. No one wants that. So, it’s a game. Game On, not No Game.

Translation (with my subtext in parenthesis):

20 years. (dude, we’re Playstation and we came out 20 years ago)

It’s a lot of time. (more than Xbox, brah)

Look around you and see everything you’ve obtained. (bookcases full of jewel cases)

You’ve ruled in infinite places, you’ve conquered and freed. (Final Fantasy, Demon’s Souls, God of War, Metal Gear Solid, done ‘em all)

You’ve built and destroyed. (your $ built PlayStation, destroyed Nintendo)

You’ve been the light against the darkness. (Xbox is evil)

However, this time is different; this time, it’s real. (we sucked a bit but now we’re cool again)

For the first time, your actions has real consequences. (we want your money)

They need your help. (we really want your money)

I know you can hear them. (let me rephrase…we want your money)

The power to change things is in your hands. (money, please)
