Assassin’s Creed 4: Freedom Cry DLC – slavery sucks

By | October 8, 2013

Freedom Cry is an appetizer for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag to be released October 29. There isn’t any gameplay in the 100-minute trailer. They got real actors acting out a montage of cruelty. Adewale, the first mate on Edward Kenway’s ship Jackdaw, is captured as a boy, endures the brutality of slavery, violently frees himself, escapes and comes back to challenge the entire institution of slavery, in his own savage way.

It reminds me of the incredible story of Olaudah Equiano, a slave who becomes a skilled shipmate, frees himself, and commits the rest of his life to ending slavery. All true. The obvious difference between Equiano and Adewale is that the former set himself to exterminate the ideology of slavery, whereas Adewale seems to be set on extermination, period. A bad-ass killer is a better video game character than an activist though the Red Cross may disagree.
