Some games are better played drunk. Broforce will be one of them.
Developer Digital’s side-scrolling run-and-gun platformer is finally here, and based on the launch trailer, looks like a retro-riot of a good time. Get the booze, the headband, mousse, and head over to Ricky’s basement for an all-nighter of Bromancing via Broforce with the Bros.
Get it now, here:
The trailer features characters based on top action stars from the ‘80s such as Rambo, Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, Terminator and even Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley…with flamethrower. Weaver isn’t exactly a Bro but she’s a Bro in Broforce, and that’s super cool.
The game’s a side-scroller. For those too young to have played side-scrollers, a side-scroller is a game that scrolls sideways. Your Bro will run from one side toward the other, usually from left to right. He won’t actually make it to the other side (unless it’s the end of the level), because the screen will scroll as he runs. Thus, side-scroller.
Many, many games used this model back in the day. Now, it’s only done by those who love to bring back the old. Bell-bottoms were cool in the ‘70s, and then people made fun of them in the ‘80s, and then they were cool again. That’s what happens in life. Cool things become lame and lame things become cool.
Thus, Broforce makes cool that which was cool and then became lame.
And they’re shooting terrorists and demons and skeleton serpents — that’s totally Bro-ness!
And of course Bromancing is in full effect. Gotta save them Bros from POW camps while killing the non-Bros who put them there.
Interesting thing about Broforce is the destructible environment. Bombs and firepower will destroy the environment, sometimes leaving huge holes where there were no holes. What challenges will that create for our Bros? Can’t wait to find out!
