Conan is a destroyer. He destroys things. He may be a hero, and does some good once in a while, but he’s born to end lives, tear down walls, and take names later, if at all.
So when Funcom invites its future players to Survive, Build, Dominate, I’m like “What???”
Survive and dominate, okay. But Build? That ain’t the Conan I know.
The reveal trailer for Conan Exiles doesn’t show much building. There’s death (via crucifixion) and a barren world, but not much building going on. The teaser shows us Conan, beefy and rough, as always. He’s also angry. Very angry. He looks like he wants to destroy, not build.
Yeah, no way, not Conan. No building for him. He’s gonna tear stuff down. He’s gonna have his revenge. He’s gonna end things, not start things.
Conan Exiles is an open world adventure coming sometime in the future on PC and consoles. There are no classes but you can survive via hunting and/or farming.
Yes, according to the site, you can “grow crops or hunt animals for food”. Now, that’s getting really weird. First, Conan the Builder, and now, Conan the Farmer? Even Conan the Hunter sounds weird.
He’s a Barbarian. By definition he’s not civilized and farming is as civilized as any civilization can get.
One other interesting tidbit on the site. You can “sacrifice enemy players on the altars of the gods and shift the balance of power your way.” Okay, a little better, but still doesn’t sound like Conan. Since when is Conan a religious man?
Whatever this game will be, let’s not forget the Conan we all know and love. Please, don’t make him civilized!
Conan Exiles is currently in pre-alpha, early access on PC available summer 2016.
