Zombie survival games are like cockroaches these days. They keep crawling out. And Kickstarter seems to be that crack behind the fridge where them roaches are breeding. We’ve had Resurrection, Survive the Nights, Zpocalypse and a whole swarm of others.
And now, there’s Bitten, which promises to be a “horror survival game with a twist”. What’s the twist? It’s zombie survival meets castaway survival like Stranded Deep. During the day, you chop wood, find food, fuse weapons, and make traps and stuff because when night comes, so do the monsters. Oh, and there are werewolves.
Unlike some of the other Kickstarter non-starters, Bitten actually looks fund-worthy. It’s a huge open-world with a wide-range of areas for exploration. It also has the potential for a myriad of crude-gadget possibilities this side of Gilligan’s Island.
And the trailer is simple, low-budget, but uses sound design very well. That’s the key to horror. In horror, what you hear is more important than what you see. No monsters pop out in the trailer. But you hear them growling and howling in the dark. That’s some sweet stuff, which makes me hopeful about the game.
Currently $226 AUD of $50K with 28 days to go. Alpha release is June 20, 2015.
